The Amazon River Basin contains 20% of the water flowing through the world’s rivers. Most of its tributaries would constitute the largest river on any other continent, but are here dwarfed by the mighty Amazon, which is six miles wide by the time it approaches the Atlantic Ocean. The river runs through the Amazon Rainforest, which accounts for half of the world’s remaining rainforest.
